This is one of the most common roofing solutions in Southern California. A composition shingles roof has a life expectancy of 20-30+ years and consists of dimensional shingles which are installed on sloped roofs with a minimum of a 3/12 pitch. This shingle is also referred to as a laminated fiberglass or architectural shingle.
There are a variety of color and design options offered by the major three composition shingles manufacturers. Pricing and quality are very similar among all manufacturers.
There are several product lines of shingles which vary based on style and thickness. From designer lines to the CertainTeed Presidential Shake which is the most popular luxury 3-dimensional composition shingles product.
This application is for very low (2-3/12) slope or flat roofs.
Asphalt rolls (3’ wide) are applied to a base sheet by torching the underside of the roll and melting the tar which then adheres to the base sheet.
These roofs are installed in either a 2-ply or 3-ply application.
A “cool roof” elastomeric coating is then applied to reduce the temperature of the roof and thus of the inside of the house.
Some asphalt rolls come pre-coated with a "cool roof" coating.
There are several manufacturers of rolled asphalt with the main one being Polyglass.
Clay/Cement tile is a popular roofing material used in Southern California. Tiles are extremely durable in comparison to composition shingles and flat roofing materials.
Clay tile are usually the 'S' style and are available in multiple color options.
Cement tile is usually the flat tile. These tile are available in heavy (aka standard) weight or light weight options with a variety of textures and color options.
There are several tile manufacturers with Boral, Eagle and US Tile being among the major ones.
Tile are not being stocked by roofing supply distributors and are ordered directly from the manufacturer and delivered directly to the job site. This translates into longer lead times, so plan ahead.
Gutter systems are made up of two main pieces: Gutters and downspouts.
Gutters are made of thick-gage aluminum and are seamless, meaning that every piece of gutter is one solid piece from end to end with no seams, which is a common place for a leak to occur.
Gutters are complemented by thick-gage aluminum downspouts.
Gutters and downspouts come in a multitude of color options.
